This NIP defines a REST API for HTTP file storage servers that work with the Nostr network. A user uploads a file to a server. The server returns a URL. The user then references that URL in Nostr notes.
67
The API does not use Nostr events over WebSockets to store, request, or retrieve data. This keeps the design simple: the file server never has to learn anything about relays. Identity still comes from Nostr. Uploads and deletes carry a NIP-98 HTTP auth event, so the server knows which pubkey owns each file.
68
Every file is identified by the SHA-256 hash of its original content.
